by David on Sep.05, 2010, under MP3, News

Sometimes you find something great, that you’re not expecting, in your own backyard. In this case, it’s Toronto band Heartbeat Hotel and their gem of an album, ‘Fetus Dreams’. Although the LP has been out for a while, I’ve just come across it recently. It’s really hard to classify this one folks….pop, rock, experimental, noise….it’s all here really. If you head over to their Bandcamp page, you can download the debut album for free. Trust me when I say, it’ll be the best thing you’ve done all week. Check out Heartbeat Hotel on Myspace.

SILENT SHOUT: A NEW NIGHT IN TOWN

by David on Sep.02, 2010, under News

There is a new night in town people….one you don’t want to miss! It’s called Silent Shout and the first installment goes down Friday September 10th, so mark your calendars. Silent Shout is a dark pop night that happens every second Friday at Teranga (159 Augusta Avenue) in Kensington Market. Each installment features two live local bands, followed by the Silent Shout DJs, Digits and DJ ARP 2600. The Indie Machine had a chance to talk to Digits aka Alt Altman about the evening. “We’re trying to build the night as supportive of up-and-coming local indie electronic artists, and the DJ portion of the evening will play a good amount of local stuff, something that seems to be lacking in Toronto.” I couldn’t agree more. The first installment will feature, Ghost Is Dancing side project, ‘Powers’ and ‘Dinosaur Dinosaur’. Head over to the Silent Shout Facebook page for more info.

FALKLANDS WANT YOU TO ‘THINK ABOUT IT’

by David on Sep.01, 2010, under MP3, News

Edmonton rockers ‘Falklands’ have been around for a few years now. The band has released a couple of EP’s and 7 inches to their credit, with no sign of an album. Until now that is. The 4-piece is set to embark on a cross Canada tour in support of their debut LP, ‘Think About It’. The end of the month will mark the release of the album and the start of a tour which will see them play pretty much every major Canadian city along the way. Check out the incredibly catchy Saint Vinny, the fourth and possibly best track on the album. At just over two and a half minutes this song really packs a punch. Check out Falklands on Myspace for tour dates and more.
