iM News: iM v.3.0 BETA

January 21, 2013

It’s been a long time in the making, but today – January 21st 2013 – marks the official internet debut of The Indie Machine’s v.3.0 website.

This means we’ve made the move to WordPress v.3.5, so we’ll finally be able to take advantage of some of those newer features that the content management system offers (including proper post thumbnails without a crude plugin/hack fix). Those of you who’ve been with us throughout the course of iM v.2.X have given us some great feedback in the past so we’ve tried to reflect some of that in the new build.

  • Page loads are faster than ever thanks to some fun image optimization code.
  • Core iM content articles – Episodes, Columns, Interviews, iM videos, and Featured Artists – are now prominently featured across the top of every page on the website for easy update viewing.
  • Our latest iM showcase events are automatically updated from Facebook in the sidebars and on the index page so you’ll always know the main details for the show.
  • Our popular photo and video galleries are better than ever with their own new designs to help you find what you’re looking for.
  • Section pages now get their own featured rotators for additional prominence.
  • The Discover Bar in the footer gets an upgrade, so the latest Soundbyte free download track and streamable mixtape are always easy to find.
  • The new “hidden drawer” feature aggregates the latest video posts – we’ve got some plans for this feature later, but in the meantime you can play with that arrow on the top-right.
  • Best of all – the whole site is MOBILE OPTIMIZED. That means you can use it on your smartphone or tablet – no matter what make or model. But please, for the love of anything you consider holy, please stop using Internet Explorer and get a real browser. We’re not fixing things that don’t work in IE – IE needs to get their act together and start following standards like everyone else.

We’d like to thank you for taking the time to visit and check out some of these great acts in the past, but we’d also like to ask you for your help – take the time to check out the site and explore. We’re hoping that with some of these new elements in place you might discover some new music, but there may also be a few glitches along the way – so if you find any of those please let us know!

This is just the beginning of 2013 and we’ve got some big plans in store this year – we hope you’ll come along for the ride.
