New Release: YOUNG RIVAL – Stay Young
Hamilton hard-hitting (but always quirky) rock trio YOUNG RIVAL follow up their excellent and much-lauded self-titled 2010 debut this week with their sophomore LP release Stay Young.
Tonally not much has changed, with ample solid thudding percussive sections, jangly guitars, and airy vocal harmonies, though there are a couple spots on the release that delve into some darker territory musically (I’m looking at you Let It Go) that might not necessarily be for everyone, but I eat that shit for breakfast…
The release is being fronted by lead single Two Reasons, and the accompanying video (also embedded below) features Michigan artist James Kuhn lip-synching a series of 25 separate performance shots; the members of YOUNG RIVAL apparently became fans of Kuhn’s elaborate body paint art style after discovering his blog back in fall 2011… which is definitely eye-catching to say the least.
The band are hitting the Ontario/Quebec road in November in support of the release (see dates below).
