ICYMI: THE STANFIELDS – Death & Taxes

With their new album Death & Taxes (rel. Sept. 18th via GroundSwell Music/Warner Music Canada) making the rounds for nearly a month now, Halifax NS Celtic-tinged rock outfit THE STANFIELDS have a lot to celebrate.

Their sophomore LP delves into some darker territory than their 2010 debut Vanguard Of The Young & Reckless, and much like their west coast contemporaries FLOGGING MOLLY (LA) and SPIRIT OF THE WEST (BC), THE STANFIELDS excel at their high-energy Celtic-rock fusion and the joyously spastic live performance that comes along with it.

What sets them apart though is likely due to their maritime upbringing that brings a much-needed freshness to the style – mixing in the traditional Celtic sounds (which, let’s face it, are likely more at home in Halifax than they are on the west coast) with arena rock inspired by the likes of SPRINGSTEEN and AC/DC. You can check out a four-track preview of the release in the embed below, or stream the whole thing over on CBC Music.

THE STANFIELDS are currently in the midst of a cross-Canada tour in support of Death & Taxes (see dates below), and are hitting the stage tonight at the El Mocambo in Toronto for Indie Week 2012.
