Video: YOUNG EMPIRES – White Doves

I think there was a stint where we ended every episode of iM for about a month with a YOUNG EMPIRES song (The Earth Plates Are Shifting, or Rain Of Gold alternatively if I’m not mistaken), so suffice to say we’re already pretty big fans of the Toronto-based electro-pop act.
Following up the release of their seven-track debut EP Wake All My Youth back in January, the now-quartet recently released the official video for single White Doves, and it’s been getting a fair bit of attention – not only for the track itself, or even just the video, but the way the video is delivered and integrated.
Directed by Miles Jay with art direction by Zazu Myers & Drew Lint and cinematography by Max Chin, the video for White Doves (co-developed by digital studio Jam3) delves into what appears to be a post-apocalyptic society where teens and twenty-somethings slave away in factories dedicated to destroying memories (or at least the photographic proof of them). That is until some of the workers begin to defy their superiors to protect the memories – check it out below.
Perhaps much more broadly bridging the gap between the realms of music video and social media, rather than just simply for fan-service – the band has also put together what is being called “the world’s first Facebook Connect video”, which adds a fun and interactive personalized touch once you login to the interface through your Facebook account, adding your own personal photos from your Facebook account in place of the photos in the video: watch the original, and then check out that interactive version HERE.
In other news, the band will be back in Toronto for NXNE next week before heading out on a North American tour through the rest of the summer (see dates below), so be sure to catch these guys live when they swing through your neighbourhood – we’ve seen them a handful of times already and they don’t disappoint!
