After a chance encounter at a concert after-party with their manager – who I’d coincidentally met several years ago during my days living in Ottawa before moving to Toronto myself – The iM quickly jumped on the bandwagon for the (at the time) unknown gem that was Ottawa-to-Toronto transplant rock trio JAMES & BLACKBURN.

In advance of the release of their debut full length Island Universe we set about making them our January 2012 Feature Artist, and they quickly overtook nearly every article we’ve ever written to land a spot among our Top-30 posts of all time… they also know how to curate a pretty killer mixtape.

Though no member in the band actually has the names James or Blackburn, J&B’s live show begs to be seen and they both write AND play with a musical maturity that is well beyond their early twenty-something years. We expect bit things to come in the future from this talented three-piece; until then, warm up your eardrums with one of The iM’s favourite finds in the past year with the player below.
