Band Watch: CHAMPION LOVER

The blues-rock quartet formerly known as BLACK DEVILS BRIGADE called it quits after a successful year in 2011 – a prominent and popular Toronto live act, an iM 2011 featured artist, and with a solid EP release under their belts near the year’s end.
Three members of the band recently announced a reformation of sorts as a new dance-rock trio called CHAMPION LOVER, and The iM couldn’t be happier than to see them continuing their songwriting pursuits… even if the band’s key interest is allegedly “champion loving”.
Using a getaway scene from 1978 film The Driver, the trio are showcasing an early self-recorded cut of “Can’t Sleep” – a preview of a “properly produced full release” that is set to be available later in 2012.
No word on whether that’s an EP or if the guys are planning on dropping a full-length right out of the gate, but from having run into an excited James Cain (bassist) about two months back who could not emphasize enough how well the new songwriting was going, let’s just say we’re expecting the EP but wouldn’t be surprised if an LP showed up out of nowhere.
Check out “Can’t Sleep” in the embed below – the guys recommend you watch it on full-screen with speakers/headphones that favour bass.
…we concur with that assessment.
