Over the past year we’ve seen a lot from Toronto/Portland, Maine alt-rock/pop collective IN THE AUDIENCE – their most recent offering back in December with the Terminal EP.

The iM is happy to report they’ve got some new (more rock-based) material on the way – the first taste of which can be found in “American Actress” which was released online earlier today.

Recorded in January and February of 2012, “American Actress” sees the Toronto/Portland rockers take a DIY approach to the recording process for the first time – with frontman Jordan Stowell, Ryan Stevens, and Cam Jones taking the time to hammer everything out themselves without any studio help (or the remainder of the potential 12 members that they have expanded to in the past) and the result is nothing short of the love child of early-90s OASIS and SMASHING PUMPKINS – which is awesome – check it out in the embed below.

Stowell says via Facebook: “It’s the first song we’ve released that we’ve actually completely recorded on our own, and this is hopefully a taste of a new album (that’s maybe a little catchier than the last) that should be out by summer.”

No word yet on any upcoming Canadian shows – though Stowell’s current band member status in Toronto’s THE BOX TIGER will see him swinging back through Toronto in the next few months, so who knows….
